Little red fruits called cranberries are native to North America. They used them as food and medicine during ceremonies. In the northern United States and Canada, cranberries are grown on more than 16,000 hectares, supplying a booming market.

To make cranberry sauce, a staple ingredient of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, the hard berries are cooked with sugar. Also, they are served dried, as spreads, pastries, and into juice. Juice represents more than 60% of cranberry product purchases at markets. Cranberries are often marketed fresh and are harvested between September and October. They are usually picked from their low-growing vines by a machine that strikes the plant to loosen the berries. And because cranberries naturally grow in wetlands, this method is feasible.

Marketers today use discoveries that cranberries may be able to help avoid various illnesses. But environmental issues have been brought up by cranberry farming like the use of agricultural pesticides that might go into water systems. But even commentators acknowledge that cranberries are advantageous to several other forms of development. Forestland around cranberry beds is typically used as protection by farmers and that implies a habitat for wildlife.
