A small London street close to Piccadilly Circus unexpectedly became the world's most well-known street for youth clothes during the 60s. The superstars of the 1960s, like the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, purchased their stunning clothing on Carnaby Street. Fashion trends up until that point originated in Paris or Milan, not from old London. Since then, a lot has changed, and London is now one of the world's most creative cities. In addition, other areas of London have developed into hotspots for pop, punk, neo-punk, post-punk, grunge, disco, techno, and other styles — for each, a street exists. The world's largest fashion event is now London's renowned "Fashion Week."
London is currently home to several of the world's best fashion designers, but there are also some of the city's top designers. Designers of new generations continue to emerge. The "University of the Arts" in London, which includes the Central St. Martin's college and the London College of Fashion, is the largest university of the arts in Europe.
Men wearing suits, bowlers, and rolled umbrellas were once considered "London fashion," but things have changed, and even the "suit and tie" — a traditional look for men working in city offices—is shifting. Many companies in London now have a "mufti day" once a week or once a month where employees can do anything they want in place of the typical suit, such as jeans and sneakers. According to the most recent surveys, classic suits are quickly vanishing, and "dress however you like" is taking over. London's fashion is constantly flourishing, which is, of course, what fashion is all about.
