A word that was first coined in 1918 but is now hardly ever used could start to appear more regularly in the English language. The term in question is "hangry," which is a portmanteau of the words "hungry" and "angry".  It describes someone angry or agitated due to hunger. Because of studies that indicate "hanger" is a diagnosable emotion, the word is becoming more popular. Researchers think that "hangriness" might be a medical condition. Researchers from Anglia Ruskin University in the UK looked at how hunger impacts our daily emotions. According to the study's lead author, Professor Viren Swami, there is a direct correlation between hunger and negative emotions like resentment or boredom.

The researchers analyzed data from 64 volunteers between the ages of 18 and 60. Five times every day for 21 days, participants had to complete surveys using a mobile app. The app helped because people could provide researchers with real-time information regarding their feelings related to hunger. This, according to Dr. Swami, produced a substantial connection between hunger and emotions. He added: "We show, for the first time in a non-laboratory setting, that feeling hungry is correlated with higher anger, irritation, and lower levels of pleasure." He suggested that if people realized they were hangry, they could better control their anger.
