The Wall Street Journal reported that certain iPhone 14s have been automatically calling emergency services on theme park rides. This is due to a new feature that detects auto accidents on the iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8, both of which were released in September 2022. The phone or watch will immediately call 911 and provide the person's location if the owner doesn't respond to an alert within 20 seconds.

According to The Wall Street Journal, riders at the nearby amusement park Kings Island have made several crash-detection calls to the Warren County Communications Center in Ohio since September. Similar calls have been made from iPhones while on a ride at Six Flags Great America in Chicago.

The technology is exceptional at identifying accidents, according to an Apple employee who spoke to The Wall Street Journal. He cited a recent accident in Nebraska where a car slammed into a tree without anyone around to call for aid. However, he noted that the business would keep working to enhance the function to lower the frequency of erroneous calls. However, some theme parks aren't holding back. The iPhone 14s is not permitted on certain rides at Chessington World of Adventures in the UK. And according to Coaster101, Dollywood in Tennessee is requesting that customers switch off their phones before riding select rides to prevent phony emergency calls.
