Many people believe that the current generation of children in their nation will likely have less financial security as adults than their parent's generation. That is in accordance with a Pew Research Center report. 82% of Japanese respondents, 78% of French respondents, and 76% of Italian respondents said that children today would grow up to be worse off in 2022.

As part of the 2022 Global Attitudes Survey, about 25,000 people in 19 richer countries were surveyed. In the nine years, the survey findings have been published, individuals in 11 of those countries have never been more negative about their children's financial future. More than 70% of individuals in 10 countries, including the US, the UK, and Spain, believed that children would struggle. In South Korea, 60% of people were worried about the country's financial future, compared to 37% in 2013.

Between February and June of 2022, when global inflation was on the rise, the survey was conducted. Also starting in February was the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Adults did, however, feel a little more optimistic about the future in several nations.56% of Singaporeans, 47% of Swedes, and 45% of Malaysians believed that today's youngsters would have better financial circumstances when they grew up. 42% of Israelis shared this opinion although 24% of Israelis stated they believed that things would remain mostly the same for the next generation.
