We Are As Smart As Rocket Scientists

מאמר באנגלית לתרגול קריאה. כולל 5 מילים חדשות עם תרגום לעברית, 3 שאלות הבנת הנקרא, 5 שאלות לשיחה. מתאים למתקדמים.

The majority of us believe that rocket scientists and brain surgeons are exceptional. Scientists have undertaken research that reveals that ordinary people are just as intelligent as high-flyers. 329 aerospace engineers and 72 neurosurgeons were asked to complete tests developed to examine six different areas of cognition by University College London researchers.

The researchers matched their findings to those of 18,257 people who had done the tests earlier. "Only two differences were significant: the neurosurgeons' problem-solving speed was faster and their memory recall speed was slower," the researchers wrote.

The study calls into doubt the validity of words like "this isn't rocket science" and "that isn't brain surgery." We use these terms to imply that something is simple to comprehend. Is it true that aeronautics and neurobiology are so perplexing? This was clarified by the researchers. "In situations where rapid information recall is required, it might be more correct to use 'It's not brain surgery,' but in situations where rapid problem solving is required, this phrase should be avoided," they said.

This gives hope to all of us that we can pursue careers we previously dismissed due to "genius-level" requirements. This, however, may result in an overabundance of brain surgeons and rocket designers.
