Look at the way we compare things:
My television is bigger than my computer.
My television is more expensive than my computer.
My brother is taller than me.
I am younger than my brother.
Her bag is more beautiful than mine.
My bag is cheaper than hers.
Bigger and more expensive are comparative adjectives. We form them like this:
SHORT ADJECTIVES (one syllable):
Old - Older
Short - Shorter
Nice - Nicer
Fat - Fatter
Big - Bigger
Comparative Adjectives Sentence Formula
Subject + am/is/are/was/were + comparative adjective + than + noun
For example
My car is smaller than my sister’s car.
This apple is sweeter than the orange.
This tree is taller than the one in the backyard.
Labradors are bigger than Chihuahuas.
Driving on a dirt road is bumpier than driving on asphalt.
LONG ADJECTIVES (two or more syllables):
Interesting - More interesting
Popular - More popular
Difficult - More difficult
Careful - More careful
Wonderful - More wonderful
Comparative Adjectives Sentence Formula
Subject + am/is/are/was/were + MORE + long comparative adjective + than + noun
For example
Butterflies are more beautiful than animals you can find.
French is more boring than Spanish.
Traveling by car is more comfortable than traveling by bus.
Dogs are more intelligent than rabbits.
She is more ambitious than her classmates.
ADJECTIVES ENDING WITH -Y :
Happy - Happier
Hungry - Hungrier
Ugly - Uglier
Pretty - Prettier
IRREGULAR ADJECTIVES:
Good - Better
Bad - Worse
