What is an adverb? 

An adverb qualifies a verb, an adjective, and another adverb. 

TYPES OF ADVERBS

ADVERB OF MANNER

The adverb is used for describing the manner of doing an action. It answers the question “how?”. 

For example: well, badly, quickly, painfully 

Sample Sentences:

He climbed the ladder carefully. 

She speaks loudly. 

He was running fastly. 

Children were doing their work quietly. 

ADVERB OF PLACE

The adverb is used for describing the place of work. It answers the question “where?”. 

Sample Sentences:

The boy looked around but he could not see. 

I am going back home. 

She took the child outside. 

I have nowhere to go. 

ADVERB OF TIME

The adverb is used for describing time. It answers the question “when?”. 

For example: early, always, never, after, yesterday

Sample Sentences:

You can take a break now. 

She goes to school daily. 

Always speak the truth. 

My guest has not arrived yet. 

ADVERB OF FREQUENCY

It answers the question “how often?”. 

For example: twice, often, sometimes, seldom, always, ever, usually 

Sample Sentences:

I usually shop for groceries on Sunday evenings. 

He is often late for work. 

We seldom meet. 

My dentist told me I should brush twice daily.

ADVERB OF CERTAINTY

It expresses how certain we feel about an action or event. 

Sample Sentences:

He surely would not forget. 

He is certainly a smart man. 

She is definitely getting late. 

Undoubtedly, he is a great President.
