Most of us might think that black or dark gray is the oldest color in the world. But, scientists have found out that bright pink is the oldest color. They looked at 1.1-billion-year-old rocks in the Sahara Desert. They discovered a bright pink color after crushing the rocks into powder. The research was led by Dr. Nur Gueneli from the Australia National University. It was done in a lab in Australia. She said that the color was made by old organisms that lived in the oceans. She added that those tiny organisms were the largest forms of life on Earth at that time.

When Dr. Gueneli first noticed the pink in the rocks, she was amazed. She thought the rock powder might turn black, but it turned pink. The rocks could also have different colors, from blood red to deep purple. According to another researcher, Dr. Gueneli came running into the office and said, “look at this,” and she had the bright pink material. “It turned out to be a real color, 1.1 billion years old,” she added. She explained how important her discovery was. “Imagine finding a preserved dinosaur skin that still has its original color like green or blue, that is the kind of discovery we have made,” Dr. Gueneli said.
