The United States has four different seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. While the weather varies greatly from region to region during these times, all parts of the country recognize the seasons; while winter in California may bring heat and winter in New York may bring blizzards, both times of year are still winter.

After winter, spring is a season of "thawing," when the intense cold and snow are replaced by good weather, sunshine, green grass, and other things. Summer follows spring and it is the warmest, longest, and liveliest of the four seasons. Many people turn on the air conditioning, dip in the pool, or explore the ever-comforting ocean waves to stay calm. More than just a season that comes before winter, autumn (or fall) is one of the year's most spectacular and exciting times. In the US, autumn is characterized by falling leaves. Traditional farmers harvest their crops in the fall, and the mentioned falling leaves turn a beautiful shade of orange, red, or yellow. These hues are typically associated with autumn itself. Winter in the US is the coldest season, as one might assume. The Christmas holiday and snow are what make winter the most well-known season, but it also has New Year's Eve and other noteworthy occasions. Ice skating, sledding, ice hockey, and snowball battles are often enjoyed as winter activities.
