It may be tempting to believe that you can complete tasks more quickly and competently than your teammates. It could be difficult to delegate duties you find enjoyable. However, striving to handle everything on your own demonstrates poor leadership and can lead to fatigue. You end up being overworked, anxious, and incapable of being the manager your team needs.

Managers must learn to delegate tasks as much as possible because managing a team comes with additional problems and obligations. This entails delegating or sharing part of your duties and having faith in others to complete some of your usual tasks. When you delegate effectively, you have the time and room to provide the support that is required, handle issues as they emerge, and keep an eye on the larger picture – all things that a leader should be doing.

Here are five suggestions for delegation effectiveness as you decide which tasks to delegate. The first one is to start with smaller tasks. If you're hesitant to assign big projects, start with the simpler ones that don't need much supervision. The second is to delegate tasks that will help the people in your team grow. Providing your team with opportunities for learning and team development should also be a priority. Delegating tasks to people who might enjoy them is the third strategy. People are more driven to perform at their highest level when they are engaged in activities they enjoy. Trusting your team is the fourth one. When we delegate, we must have the confidence that the task will be completed, but not exactly as we would. Lastly, give support. As the team's leader, you must establish clear expectations and goals, explain deadlines, and provide direction as necessary. Delegating is difficult, and doing it well takes practice. But it is by sharing responsibilities that we can become valuable team players and true leaders.
