ADJECTIVES

Let's break down the grammar concepts related to adjectives and noun phrases, sentence structure with adjectives, and the usage of "look/feel/smell/taste/sound" with adjectives.

1. Adjectives + Noun:

Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns. When combining adjectives with nouns, they usually come before the noun they modify. The adjective adds information or qualities to the noun, helping to provide a clearer description. For example:

   - "The beautiful flower" (The adjective "beautiful" describes the noun "flower".)

   - "A big house" (The adjective "big" describes the noun "house".)

2. Sentence Structure with Adjectives:

Adjectives can be used in different positions within a sentence to modify nouns.

Here are some common sentence structures:

   a. Adjective before the noun:

This is the most common structure, where the adjective comes directly before the noun it modifies.

For example:

      - "She has a red car."

      - "He is a tall man."

   b. Adjective after linking verbs (be, seem, appear, etc.):

When using linking verbs, such as "be," "seem," or "appear," the adjective comes after the verb to describe the subject. For example:

      - "The cake is delicious."

      - "He seems tired."

   c. Adjective with a linking verb and complement:

In some cases, adjectives are used with a linking verb and a complement to provide more information about the subject. For example:

      - "She became happy."

      - "The dog grew larger."

3. "Look/Feel/Smell/Taste/Sound" + Adjectives:

These verbs are called sensory verbs and are often used with adjectives to describe the sensory qualities of things. Here's how they are used:

   a. LOOK: Describing appearance or visual qualities.

      - "The painting looks beautiful."

      - "She looks tired today."

   b. FEEL: Describing texture or physical sensations.

      - "The fabric feels soft."

      - "The water feels cold."

   c. SMELL: Describing scents or odors.

      - "The flowers smell fragrant."

      - "The food smells delicious."

   d. TASTE: Describing flavors.

      - "The soup tastes salty."

      - "The cake tastes sweet."

   e. SOUND: Describing auditory qualities.

      - "The music sounds melodic."

      - "His voice sounds deep."

Remember that these structures and patterns are not exhaustive, but they provide a foundation for understanding how adjectives are used with nouns, in sentence structures, and in combination with sensory verbs. Practice and exposure to different examples will help solidify your understanding of these grammar concepts.
