Things which are happening at the moment:

It is raining at the moment. Don’t forget to bring your umbrella. 

Cats are drinking milk now.

Permanent situations (nearly permanent; true for a few years at least)  

My father works in a bank. 

They live in Spain.  

Present Continuous

Temporary situations:

I am staying at my friend’s house for two weeks. 

She is working in this town for three months. 

Situations which are slowly changing:

My mother’s condition is getting better. 

The price of oil is increasing over the past few months. 

Present Simple

Regular habits:

I wake up at 6 AM every day. 

My mother cleans the house every Sunday. 

Present Continuous

Temporary or new habits:

I am exercising these days. 

She is eating vegetables these months. 

Annoying habits — usually with ‘always’:

My sister is always wearing my clothes! 

The kids are always leaving the toys in the living room!

My favorite TV program starts at 10 PM tonight. 

The earliest train arrives at 8 AM tomorrow.
