PASSIVE VOICE 2 (TWO OBJECTS)

The passive voice with two objects, also known as the double object passive, is a grammatical construction that allows you to express an action where the subject receives the action and there are two objects involved. In this construction, the direct object becomes the subject of the passive sentence, and the indirect object remains the same or is introduced with the preposition "to" or "for."

To form the passive voice with two objects, you need the auxiliary verb "be" followed by the past participle of the main verb. The indirect object is usually placed before the direct object in the active voice, and it remains in the same position in the passive voice. However, if the indirect object is introduced with a preposition, it can be placed after the direct object in the passive voice.

Here's a breakdown of how to form the passive voice with two objects in all tenses:

1. Simple Present:

Active: Subject + verb + indirect object + direct object

Passive: Indirect object + am/is/are + past participle (by subject) + direct object

   Example:

Active: He gives me a book.

Passive: I am given a book (by him).

2. Present Continuous:

   Active: Subject + am/is/are + verb + indirect object + direct object

Passive: Indirect object + am/is/are being + past participle (by subject) + direct object

Example:

Active: They are sending her a gift.

Passive: She is being sent a gift (by them).

3. Simple Past:

Active: Subject + verb (past tense) + indirect object + direct object

Passive: Indirect object + was/were + past participle (by subject) + direct object

   Example:

Active: She bought him a car.

Passive: He was bought a car (by her).

4. Past Continuous:

   Active: Subject + was/were + verb + indirect object + direct object

Passive: Indirect object + was/were being + past participle (by subject) + direct object

   Example:

Active: They were showing us their pictures.

Passive: We were being shown their pictures (by them).

5. Present Perfect:

Active: Subject + have/has + verb (past participle) + indirect object + direct object

Passive: Indirect object + have/has been + past participle (by subject) + direct object

   Example:

Active: He has given me a present.

Passive: I have been given a present (by him).

6. Past Perfect:

Active: Subject + had + verb (past participle) + indirect object + direct object

Passive: Indirect object + had been + past participle (by subject) + direct object

   Example:

Active: They had shown us their new house.

Passive: We had been shown their new house (by them).

7. Future:

   Active: Subject + will/shall + verb + indirect object + direct object

Passive: Indirect object + will/shall be + past participle (by subject) + direct object

   Example:

Active: She will buy him a gift.

Passive: He will be bought a gift (by her).

8. Future Perfect:

Active: Subject + will/shall + have + verb (past participle) + indirect object + direct object

Passive: Indirect object + will/shall have been + past participle (by subject) + direct object

   Example:

Active: They will have given me the money.

Passive: I will have been given the money (by them).

Remember, not all verbs can be used in the passive voice, and the choice to use the passive voice depends on the context and emphasis you want to convey.
