A. We usually make questions by changing the word order: we put the first AUXILIARY VERB before the SUBJECT:
She is dancing in the room.
Is she dancing in the room?
She will dance tonight.
Will she dance tonight?
They can cook their food.
Can they cook their food?
B. In present simple questions, we use do/does:
She knows her.
Does she know her?
The classes end at 5 o’clock.
What time do the classes end? (not 'What time end ...?')
In past simple questions, we use did:
You take breakfast.
Did you take breakfast?
But do not use do/does/did in questions if who/what/which is the subject of the sentence.
Compare:
Someone drinks coffee.
Who drinks coffee? SUBJECT
Compare:
John drinks something.
What did John drink? OBJECT
In these examples, who/what/which is the subject:
Who wants something to eat?
What happened to you last night?
Which bus goes to the city center?
In these examples, who/what/which is the object:
Who did they want to eat?
What did you do last night?
Which bus goes to the city center?
C. Note the position of prepositions in questions beginning Who/What/Which/Where ...?:
What are you looking at?
