Read the article below.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, which was first published in 1813, focuses on the Bennet family in 19th-century England. The protagonist of the narrative and one of the five Bennet sisters, Elizabeth, is a wise and self-reliant woman. She is, however, also judgmental, and the love story in the book is driven by her incorrect judgments of Mr. Darcy, a wealthy and handsome landowner. Because of its plot, characters, and issues that still resonate with readers today, the book became very successful as soon as it was published.

The "girl meets guy, girl and guy hate one other, then girl and guy fall in love" plot wasn't originated by Austen, but her usage of it is a big reason why it has been utilized in so many books, movies, and TV episodes since. Characters in Pride and Prejudice still have relatable goals, such as Elizabeth, who desires marriage for reasons other than money, which was atypical for a lady at the time. Similarly, people laughed in the 19th century and still do now at Jane Austen's sharp observations of people and their conduct. Its themes—including socioeconomic status, women's place in society, and, of course, love—have also endured the test of time.

According to The Independent, Pride and Prejudice has sold over 20 million copies in the 200 years since its publication and has never been out of print. In addition to being revolutionized into several films, TV shows, plays, and other media, Pride and Prejudice served as an inspiration for innumerable other works, such as Bridget Jones's Diary. More than 70 other languages have been translated into it. On a side note, if you're not a big reader,  The BBC's 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries is regarded as the greatest adaptation of Austen's book.
