A Massachusetts law school attests it sent acceptance emails by mistake to thousands of past and present candidates. In a statement, the Northeastern University School of Law attributed the glitch to a "technical error," noting that the erroneous emails were sent to nearly 4,000 previous applicants, some of whom are currently enrolled, as well as more than 200 people who applied for admission beginning in the fall. "Shortly after discovering the error, the School of Law wrote an explanatory email. Additionally, applicants who have concerns are being personally contacted, according to the Boston school.

Final admissions decisions will not be made until later in the academic year. The School of Law issued a statement saying that it truly regrets this inadvertent mistake and is taking steps to assure that it will not happen in the future.  A single mother from Northborough, Massachusetts named Lakisha Papoutsakis, who received the acceptance email, told NBC10 Boston that she has contemplated attending law school since she was a young girl. Before noticing the follow-up email, she told her loved ones the wonderful news. “I was like, ‘Oh my God this is so amazing,’ and then it was like, ‘Oh no, sorry, April Fool’s Day,’” she said. Of the 3,877 applicants, 234 were accepted into law school this fall, according to  Northeastern’s website.
