The city of co-existence, sea, and mountains: Haifa. Besides its breathtaking landscapes, lovely restaurants, and kind people… What do you know about this spectacular city that is located 150 kilometers from the capital of Israel? There are many things you don’t know about this spectacular city.

Haifa is known as the city of coexistence and hard work. There is a very meaningful Israeli saying that preaches “Jerusalem studies, Tel Aviv plays, and Haifa works”, and somehow, it couldn’t be closer to reality. Haifa was the first home for the Israeli Hi-Tech industry, which then moved to locations like Herzliya, Netanya, Tel Aviv, and even Be’er Sheva.

Haifa’s well-known Mount Carmel (which suffered one of the worst fires in the history of Israel a few years ago), and Haifa’s Kishon River, are both mentioned in the Torah. The only city in Israel that has a subway is Haifa, and it is a very special one. Haifa’s subway is on an incline, just like the city itself. It goes from the sea up to the mountain. It is called “Carmelit”. In the Stella Maris Monastery, uphill in Haifa, there is a monument of the “Virgen del Carmen”, a significant figure for Latin American Catholics. This monument can only be found in one other place: Chile. Haifa’s port is the biggest of Israel’s international seaports. Many containers, products, and cruises arrive and leave from this spot. Did you know that Haifa is one of the very few cities in Israel that has public transportation on Shabbat? Buses are available in this lovely city, even on Friday nights and Saturdays. The interactive museum of science, technology, and space is located in Haifa. It is a fantastic place to go with your young kids… and even with a friend or a significant other. It is a very cool, fun, and interactive museum you cannot miss on your next visit to Israel. Haifa is also home to some of the most prestigious universities in the world. The Technion, the University of Haifa, and the Gordon School of Education are located in this gorgeous city, with campuses all over the place. The city is always full of students… very smart students!
