Consumers all over the world are feeling the pinch as inflation bites and prices rise everywhere. The cost of energy, which affects all industries and increases prices for the average consumer, is a major cause of this rampant inflation. Lockdowns and social restrictions over the past two years, as well as a recovery in the hospitality and travel industries, have led to a rapid rise in the demand for energy. The gradual decline of the pandemic is not even the greatest story of 2022, as the Russian invasion of Ukraine has dominated the news. Russia's Gazprom reduced its natural gas exports to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to 20% of capacity in July, adding to the inflationary and economic risks.

Governments around the globe are searching for solutions to the current energy crisis, which is a global phenomenon. In Europe, policymakers are trying to ease the pressure that will be put on consumers if the situation doesn't improve by the end of the winter. To make it easier on people, the European Commission has come up with a plan to give consumers $140 billion in extra profits from energy companies.

A coalition of oil-producing countries, including Russia and Saudi Arabia, announced that it would cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day, which could raise oil prices globally and increase the likelihood of a global recession. However, the crisis may provide the impetus for increased investments in greener energy. According to Fortune magazine, a number of major emitters have increased their goals for renewable energy rollouts, and private companies are investing at record levels to radically scale up the delivery of greener energy.
