Concerns over fast fashion's impact on the environment are growing among environmentalists. Fast fashion is the low-cost mass manufacture of clothing. To generate a large demand, they are promptly placed in stores and online. Every year, manufacturers produce 100 billion items of clothes. By 2030, this is anticipated to expand by 60%. The fast fashion industry's business model is harmful to the environment. The majority of the clothes are not recycled and wind up in landfills. The chemicals employed in the production of clothing have a detrimental impact on the environment as well. People who work in clothing manufacturers are affected by these health issues. There are rumors that many of these garments are made by youngsters.

The issue of garment waste is being made worse by the way people are purchasing apparel. People used to visit stores and try on clothing back then. Before making a clothing purchase, people spent more time and went over their options. They furthermore kept them on longer. Nowadays, individuals buy inexpensive clothing online and send it back if they don't like it. Some claim that this is leading to a throwaway culture. Some people purchase clothing but never even put it on. Less than 1% of the four million tons of clothing that are thrown away in Europe each year, according to the German media outlet Deutsche Welle, suggests that the fashion business is not very sustainable.
