A huge cane toad that might break a world record has been found by park rangers in Queensland, Australia. The toad is six times larger than the usual toad, so the rangers who work in a rainforest in the north of the country, named it "Toadzilla," after the monster Godzilla from the movie.

Cane toads are frequently found in the wild by Australian park rangers. According to experts, there are hundreds of millions of them in the nation, and because they lack natural predators, they pose a significant threat. The toad, which was discovered by Kylee Gray and her crew, measured 2.7 kilograms when it was discovered, but Gray claimed to have never seen anything so large and compared it to a "football with legs." The toad that holds the current Guinness World Record for weight was weighed as a pet in Sweden in 1991 and came in at 2.65 kg. In 1935, poisonous toads were first introduced to Australia in an effort to control the cane beetle population. However, toad populations have grown and are now very challenging to control.

Gray said she was not aware of the toad's age, but that they can live to the age of 15, and that it was presumably a female. Toads like these typically eat insects, but she said a cane toad of Toadzilla's size "will eat anything it can fit into its mouth." According to the Queensland Department of Environment and Science, female cane toads can lay up to 30,000 eggs in a single season. Like other pests in Australia, Toadzilla was later killed and will be donated to the Queensland Museum.
