An alert on a missing radioactive capsule has been issued by Australia. Residents of Perth, the state capital, and other areas in Western Australia were alerted to a "radioactive substance risk" by state officials. The 8mm x 6mm capsule is now the subject of a search. It contains  Caesium-137, a harmful and radioactive chemical. It has sufficient radioactive material present to "cause serious health repercussions." While being transferred from a mining town to a suburb of Perth, the capsule vanished. Authorities believe it fell out of the truck that was carrying it because of a hole.

If someone finds the capsule, the chief health officer of Western Australia urged caution. If you see the capsule or something that resembles it, stay away from it, he advised, as exposure to it could result in radiation burns or severe illness. He also said that being very close to the material could result in serious health problems, including radiation burns to the skin. Being just one meter away from the capsule would expose someone to radiation levels that is equivalent to ten X-rays.
