The advent of the digital era has made it possible to obtain information and new online services like never before; however, is it worthwhile? As a result of the recent string of incidents that have garnered widespread media attention, the United States currently finds itself in the midst of a data privacy awakening. Governments are taking measures to safeguard citizens' privacy and installing constraints on the use of personal information, such as the General Data Protection Regulation that was just recently put into effect by the European Union (EU). (GDPR). The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) mandates that all customer data must be transferable, and businesses must be able to demonstrate, via an audit record, that personal information was managed appropriately. The new regulations have caused concern among some American businesses, specifically news organizations, and as a result, access to some websites in Europe has been momentarily restricted. Privacy activists working for consumer rights organizations have lodged complaints against some of the most well-known businesses in the world, including Facebook and Google, among others.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that was implemented by the European Union has had a significant effect on the technology sector. Companies are still attempting to comprehend the complete implications of the changes, and it has been found that not all businesses are affected in the same way. The state of California just recently passed its own legislation with the intention of safeguarding the data privacy of consumers, but the reaction from the technology industry and other concerned organizations has been mixed so far. Blockchain technology is similar to a digital ledger in that it permits information to be disseminated but prevents it from being copied. This is the technology that holds the key to protecting users' anonymity. The way we convey our own information could be fundamentally altered by this technology, which would make it possible for us to freely exchange and sell our data.
