Henry Ford disliked waste. His goal was to create the most efficient production line for his Model T autos. He considered the process flow, beginning with raw materials and ending with a satisfied consumer driving a new automobile.

In 1913, Henry Ford established a moving assembly line to manufacture automobiles in Michigan, USA. Every worker had a separate job, and the vehicles passed by each workstation as they traveled through the plant. Mr. Ford had an office on the second level from which he could observe the whole line. If he saw that a section of the line was moving too slowly or that employees were moving too rapidly, he would adjust the system until it was more efficient.

His methods included standardization, fair compensation, and waste reduction. Henry Ford is widely regarded as the "Father of Lean Manufacturing."

Toyota is the world's largest automaker, and the Toyota Production System (TPS) is based on Henry Ford's original concepts.
