According to a study from the University of Tel Aviv, women on eBay make less money while selling identical items as males. Between 2009 and 2012, 420 products from eBay's US website were reviewed. Women typically received roughly 80 cents less per new item than men when selling them. The survey was conducted by a third party, thus the e-commerce giant made no comments on the findings.

A seller or a buyer is not required by eBay to identify their gender. By examining the usernames, the students who conducted the research task were able to differentiate between males and women. Although maybe they earn less on eBay than males, women have a higher selling reputation. Women tend to purchase more, according to the study.

In line with the report, consumers weren't intentionally discriminating. When later interviewed, the majority of them stated that they did not believe that gender was a problem on eBay. They were simply concerned with an item's price, quality, and description.
