Meat, eggs, and cakes may all be found on the shelves of the Plastic Bag Store in Ann Arbor, Michigan; they were all created from single-use plastics that were previously trash.  The public art installation and film experience were created to encourage people to consider the long-term effects of single-use plastics.

Throughout the day, the store transforms into a set for short films that highlight the risks posed by plastic waste and how they may impact future generations. The store's creator Robin Frohardt said she got the idea many years ago after she saw someone use multiple bags for her groceries rather than just one. She decided to start a project that raised awareness about the excessive quantity of packaging that is used for everyday goods since she believed it was unnecessary. 2020 saw the debut of The Plastic Bag Store in Times Square, New York. Since then, it has made stops in Adelaide, Australia, Austin, Texas, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

Michigan will host it till February 5, 2023. $30 for general admission and $12 for students. "My dream would be that this project becomes irrelevant," said Frohardt, who is based in New York. "But it probably won't be."   Plastic bags are made from fossil fuels and are extremely harmful to the environment. According to the Worldwatch Institute, a Washington, D.C.-based environmental research organization, Americans dump 100 billion plastic bags annually.
